Introduction
Vietnam Metrology Institute (VMI) is a national body for metrology within Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ) belonging to Ministry of Science and Technology;
The function of VMI is to develop, to maintain, to custody national measurement standards system; to carry out scientific, technical and professional research on metrology;
Main function and task
    To develop, to maintain, to custody and to utilize the national measurement standards system;
    To ensure the traceability of measurement standards to the SI;
    To maintain the legal measurement units system of Vietnam in the whole country;
    To define, to develop the rules, regulations and technical documents on metrology;
    To manage and to implement R&D activities on metrology;
    Design, production and supply of measuring instruments, measurement standards, verification and calibration equipment. To develop new measurement methods;
    To carry out peer review on the technical aspects of verification bodies, serving the state management on metrology;
    To develop material for trainings on metrology;
    To train the technical staffs for the verification, calibration and testing bodies in various fields of metrology;
    Consultancy for establishment and implement Quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001:2000, management system in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005;
    To carry out information activities on metrology;
    To carry out international cooperation activities on metrology;
Main power
There are 12 laboratories at VMI. There are 10 of them have been accreditated in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by Vietnam Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (VILAS);
There are more than 100 staffs working at VMI, including doctor (PhD), master, engineers and technical officers;

    Full member of Asia-Pacific Metrology Programme - APMP (1992);
    Associate member of Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures - CGPM (2003);
    Director of VMI ha signed the global MRA on metrology (2004);
